Recently, members of the Sri Chinmoy Centre offered a Songs of the Soul concert at Kamakura as part of a Japanese tour. The musicians also performed by the great Kamakura statue.

Sri Chinmoy visited Kamakura on a number of occasions, including three peace concerts. He wrote a poem about this most significant statue.

Concert de Paix features Sri Chinmoy playing on the flute, esraj, and his own soulful singing.

After the concert, the prestigious French newspaper Le Monde remarked the “extraordinary sociological fact” that “a single man, simply by standing with folded hands, is able to impose several minutes of silence upon thousands of people of varied origins.” The reporter went on to say,“Curiously, one had the feeling that the crowd had not come for the music but rather for what was in between the compositions, that is, the inner peace that the sound only served to prolong.”

Warsaw Concert

In July 2011 twelve singers from around the world visited Iceland to perform Sri Chinmoy’s songs at a variety of churches throughout the country. The 12 male singers sang Sri Chinmoy’s songs acapella to audiences across Iceland. These performances capture the simplicity, soulfulness and purity of Sri Chinmoy’s music. In the video, the performers talk a little about the experience of singing in this concert tour.

The flute was one Sri Chinmoy’s favourite instruments. He started playing the Indian flute in 1974, and he first played the Western flute in a public concert in Melbourne 10th March 1976. (landmarks since 1974 at Sri Chinmoy.org)

Many have found Sri Chinmoy’s peaceful and ethereal flute music to be a great aid to meditation.

The recording features performances on the Esraj, Indian and Western Flute and other instruments. This concert was one of the last before Sri Chinmoy’s mahasamadhi in October 2007. Throughout his life, Sri Chinmoy sought to be a student of peace.
