Yuri Trostenyuk, a student of Sri Chinmoy from the Ukraine, won the 2016 edition of the 3100 Mile Race – with current record holder Asprihanal Aalto (Finland) finishing shortly after.

2016 was the 20th annual Self-Transcendence 3100 Mile Race and it provided the closest finish, with a late surge by Asprihanal making it a narrow margin of victory for Yuri, who also completed his fourth edition of the race. Flying Aalto wins 3100 Mile Race in record time

Ashprihanal Aalto, 44, from Helsinki Finland won the 19th Annual Self-Transcendence Race in a new world record time of 40 days+09:06:21.

He set a new record for the 3100 Mile Race – taking 23 hours, 10 minutes off the record held by German legend Madhupran Wolfgang Schwerk.

During the 3100 mile race Mr. Aalto averaged 76.776 miles per day (123.559 km). This is equivalent to running nearly three marathons a day – consecutively for over 40 days.

Self Transcendence 3100 mile race – 2015

The nineteenth annual Self-Transcendence 3100 mile race began this week in New York. The epic race was founded by Sri Chinmoy, a spiritual teacher who also encouraged ultra distance running as a means to physical and spiritual self-transcendence.

Self-Transcendence 3100 mile race in the media

The 2014 edition of Self-Transcendence 3100 mile race is nearly over – after 50 plus days of the 14 runners competing in this epic feat of endurance .  So far five runners have completed the 3,100 miles, with Sarvagata Ukrainskyi of the Ukraine finishing 1st in a time of 45 days. Sarah Barnett (Aus) is due to finish soon becoming the first female to win this race, and only the 4th women ever to finish.

William Sichel (Orkney Islands, Scotland, UK) is also likely to finish within the time limit, becoming the first over 60 year old to complete the distance.

3100 mile self-transcendence race – 2013

On the 16th June 2013, 12 runners began the 16th edition of the 3,100 mile self-transcendence race in New York. Founded by Sri Chinmoy in 1997, the race has been run continuously since 1997; the course record was set by Madhupran W. Schwerk in 2006 – with a time of 41 days – averaging nearly 75 miles a day. Over the next 6 weeks, the runners will seek to overcome all physical and mental hurdles to complete this epic feat of endurance.

The 12 starters includes 3 female athletes, and 3 runners making their first attempt. The most experienced runner on the start line is Ashprihanal Aalto from Finland, who has already completed 11 races so far, and holds the second best finishing time.

Grahak Wins 3100 Mile Self-Transcendence Race

Grahak Cunningham of Perth, Australia, finished first in the 2012 edition of the 3100 Mile Self-Transcendence Race. Despite four heat waves and other difficulties, Grahak ran the fourth fastest performance in the sixteen year history of the race today, covering the 3100 mile distance in 43 days,10 hours, 36 minutes and 39 seconds.

For the 3100 mile race, Grahak averaged 71.363 miles /114.848 kilometers per day. He becomes the third man in history to average over 70 miles for the duration of the race. The 35 year old has run the race four times now, with each one faster than his previous effort.

3100 Mile Race 2012

On June 17th, 2012 , the world’s longest certified footrace, the Self-Transcendence 3100 Mile race, will begin in Queens, New York. Inspired by Spiritual Teacher, Sri Chinmoy, the 3100 Mile race began in 1997, and provides the ultimate test of physical and mental endurance. The current record for the event is held by Madhupran Wolfgang Schwerk  from Germany with a 2006 best of 41 days 6 hrs – 75 miles per day!

The runners cover the 3100 Mile distance by running around a small loop of less than one mile. The athletes run continuously for up to 18 hours a day from the start of the race, to the finish 52 days later.

Epic Feats of Self Transcendence

The 2011 edition of the Self-Transcendence 3100 race recently finished, with the ten runners completing a total of 29,517 miles.

There were eight runners who finished the 3100 mile race in the allotted time frame of 54 days. The total mileage of the 10 runners (29,517) is equivalent to running around the world + another 4,500 miles.

3100 Mile Race 2011

The 15th Annual Self-Transcendence 3100 mile race begins today, June 12th in Jamaica, Queens, NY.

Ten runners will attempt, what the NY Times describes as the “The Mount Everest of ultramarathons” Runners will need to complete  5649 laps of a .5488 of a mile course (883 meters) in the timespan of 52 days. The course also includes a small hill. Runners will need to average 60 miles a day to complete in time. The current record for the 3100 mile race is Madhupran Wolfgang Schwerk of Germany who finished the course in 2006 in a time of 41 days 8 hours, averaging 75 miles per day.

The race was founded by Sri Chinmoy, a Spiritual Teacher keen to promote the benefits of sport and individual self-transcendence.
