{"id":2223,"date":"2013-07-30T15:36:35","date_gmt":"2013-07-30T19:36:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.srichinmoybio.co.uk\/news\/?p=2223"},"modified":"2013-07-30T15:36:35","modified_gmt":"2013-07-30T19:36:35","slug":"statue-of-sri-chinmoy-in-ipswich","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.srichinmoybio.co.uk\/news\/?p=2223","title":{"rendered":"Statue of Sri Chinmoy in Ipswich"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Recently a statue of Sri Chinmoy holding a Peace Torch was dedicated at Chantery Park, Ipswich; the statue was a gift from the Oneness-Home Peace Run, and marked the culmination of a week long Peace Run from Cardiff to Ipswich.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"ipwsich-statue\" src=\"https:\/\/www.srichinmoybio.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/ipwsich-statue-500x391.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"391\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Statue with Mayor of Ipswich and sculptor Kaivalya Torpy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Sri Chinmoy visited Ipswich on two occasions, in the the 1980s and 1990s, and the city is a member of the Sri Chinmoy Peace Blossoms programme. Several athletic events have also been offered by the Sri Chinmoy Marathon Team in Ipswich over the years.<\/p>\n<p>The organiser of the event, Martin Spettigue commented that:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u00e2\u20ac\u0153We want to offer something that will inspire people to think more and more about peace and to understand how important peace is to an individual.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>The Mayor of Ipswich offered his gratitude to the Peace Run team for kindly offering this symbol of peace and said it would be a great asset to Chantery Park.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>During the ceremony, the Peace Run offered a &#8216;Harmony Torch Bearer Award&#8217;\u00c2\u00a0 to the Reverend Clifford Reed (a poet, artist, and Unitarian Minister for 36 years.) The &#8216;Harmony Torch Bearer Award&#8217; is a recognition for individuals who have selfless offered a positive contribution to their local communities . The Reverend Clifford Reed was honoured, amongst other achievements, for his sterling work in bringing different religions together. He was a founder member and chairman of the Ipswich interfaith movement.\u00c2\u00a0 He is also a leading poet, and writer.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2225\" alt=\"ipwsich-statue-smiles\" src=\"https:\/\/www.srichinmoybio.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/ipwsich-statue-smiles-500x332.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"332\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.srichinmoybio.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/ipwsich-statue-smiles-500x332.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.srichinmoybio.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/ipwsich-statue-smiles-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.srichinmoybio.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/ipwsich-statue-smiles.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 85vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peacerun.org\/\">Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run<\/a> is an international event which seeks to promote peace and harmony across the world. Since its inception in 1987, it has travelled through many countries and given thousands of people the opportunity to participate in offering a wish for world peace.<\/p>\n<p>This year, the British Peace Run, began in Cardiff and travelled across the country through Bristol, Oxford and Cambridge before arriving in Ipswich.
