{"id":2186,"date":"2013-06-28T10:45:21","date_gmt":"2013-06-28T14:45:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.srichinmoybio.co.uk\/news\/?p=2186"},"modified":"2013-06-27T10:48:58","modified_gmt":"2013-06-27T14:48:58","slug":"auckland-a-peace-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.srichinmoybio.co.uk\/news\/?p=2186","title":{"rendered":"Auckland a Peace City"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Members of the Auckland Sri Chinmoy Centre recently took part in a multi-cultural ceremony to help launch Auckland as a Peace city.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2188\" alt=\"torch\" src=\"https:\/\/www.srichinmoybio.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/nataliya_running.jpg\" width=\"450\" height=\"325\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.srichinmoybio.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/nataliya_running.jpg 450w, https:\/\/www.srichinmoybio.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/nataliya_running-300x216.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 85vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The 8th June 2013, saw the DVD launch of \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcNuclear Free New Zealand: Auckland the Peace City\u00e2\u20ac\u2122, a commemorative video documentary recapturing the highlights of last years high-level dedication of Auckland as a City for Peace. The 2012 ceremony in Auckland\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Aotea Square gathered generations of nuclear-free campaigners, peace organizations, keynote speakers from environmental and civic organizations, and musicians from all over New Zealand in a public outpouring of support for peace and a reliving and affirmation of the David Lange led campaign to establish a nuclear-free nation.<\/p>\n<p>Efforts to forge peace through the Auckland Peace City Declaration received further impetus this week when His Holiness The Dalai Lama signed the Auckland Peace City citation yesterday in the presence of veteran and passionate peace campaigners, as well as Auckland Council representatives.<\/p>\n<p>Sri Chinmoy Centre members were very active in the original ceremony \u00e2\u20ac\u201c speeches; the full World Harmony Run team on stage throughout with several flaming torches; our runners in the procession representing the scores of support organizations; and media interviews \u00e2\u20ac\u201c and last Saturday\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s commemorative video launch had us again meeting up with our many friends from 2012.<\/p>\n<p>The Auckland City for Peace Declaration was first adopted by the Auckland City Council in 2011, recognising its role in the promotion of a culture of peace based on social, economic and environmental justice, tolerance and non-violence.<\/p>\n<p>Hosting last weekend\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s event was the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sginz.org\/buddhism\/\">Soka Gakkai International (SGI)<\/a> Buddhist group, with Auckland Mayor Len Brown among the many personalities who met up with our World Harmony Run-attired Centre members. <i>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Auckland was at the forefront of 1985\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s nuclear free movement\u00e2\u20ac\u009d, <\/i>he commented<i>, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153 and to be declaring ourselves as a City for Peace on the 25th anniversary of that decision is very fitting.<\/i> \u00e2\u20ac\u0153<\/p>\n<p>The Blue Bird caf\u00c3\u00a9 provided refreshments after the video screening, which featured a lengthy, excellent interview with our Sri Chinmoy Centre member Hridayinee Williams.
