{"id":2142,"date":"2013-06-14T10:55:18","date_gmt":"2013-06-14T14:55:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.srichinmoybio.co.uk\/news\/?p=2142"},"modified":"2013-06-14T10:55:18","modified_gmt":"2013-06-14T14:55:18","slug":"happiness-project-auckland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.srichinmoybio.co.uk\/news\/?p=2142","title":{"rendered":"Happiness project &#8211; Auckland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Members of the Auckland Sri Chinmoy Centre have embraced a global initiative to promote happiness through offering books, posters and meditation workshops on the theme of happiness.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2143\" alt=\"happiness\" src=\"https:\/\/www.srichinmoybio.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/Happiness-15.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"356\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.srichinmoybio.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/Happiness-15.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.srichinmoybio.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/Happiness-15-300x213.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 85vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With the topic of happiness much in the news &#8211; and increasingly relevant in a world where, by 2020, depression is being identified as the probable second leading cause of disability worldwide \u00e2\u20ac\u201c it is reassuring to see a number of global efforts to address this issue.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The UN General Assembly passed a resolution to have March 20<sup>th<\/sup> every year designated as the <b><i>International Day of Happiness<\/i><\/b>. The United Nations also mandated a <b><i>World<\/i><\/b> <b><i>Happiness Report<\/i><\/b> which the Earth Institute of Columbia University prepared. This report shows the state of happiness in countries around the world and reflects a growing and worldwide demand for a more \u00e2\u20ac\u0153holistic approach to development\u00e2\u20ac\u009d aimed at promoting sustainable happiness and wellbeing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The United Nations has asked the world community to support this initiative to encourage and foster happier societies. At Harvard University the most popular course is on \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcHappiness\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 with over 800 students enrolled!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00c2\u00a0<img class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-2144\" alt=\"happiness\" src=\"https:\/\/www.srichinmoybio.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/Happiness-11.jpg\" width=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.srichinmoybio.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/Happiness-11.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.srichinmoybio.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/Happiness-11-213x300.jpg 213w, https:\/\/www.srichinmoybio.co.uk\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/Happiness-11-355x500.jpg 355w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Sri Chinmoy Centres worldwide are also responding. A \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcHappiness\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 project includes the audio book \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcThe Jewels of Happiness\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 &#8211; featuring Sri Chinmoy\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s writings on the subject read by seventeen famous people \u00e2\u20ac\u201c played \u00c2\u00a0by radio stations and often including live interviews with project organizers. \u00c2\u00a0Inspirational \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcHappiness\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 posters have also been designed for schools, businesses and community centres to lift everyone\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s spirits. These feature quotations on happiness from the writings of Sri Chinmoy and are freely available in many participating countries.<\/p>\n<p>The Sri Chinmoy Centres in many places are also offering stress-reducing, happiness-themed, free\u00c2\u00a0 \u00e2\u20ac\u02dclearn meditation\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 workshops at businesses and places of work. These structured courses introduce key meditation techniques and workplace skills that deal with the topic of inner happiness and have proven very popular throughout the five years this free service has been running.<\/p>\n<p>Children, our most precious resource, are also being encouraged to live happy lives, and music programs are being developed to foster a little joyfulness in schools.
