Some of my friends at work were discussing theories and prophecies of 2012. They knew I practise meditation and have a spiritual teacher so they asked me for my opinion.<\/p>\n

To be honest, I didn’t have an opinion, as I’ve never been interested in this kind of prophecy. It seems there are always some kind of theories and prophecies that mainly create sensation and curiosity.<\/p>\n

Sometimes, people would ask Sri Chinmoy, my spiritual teacher, about things like this, but, he would usually be vague saying sometimes prophecies came true, sometimes they didn’t, but, how does it help to know the future? He would then\u00c2\u00a0 turn the question around asking how we were trying to become better citizens of the world.<\/p>\n

Try not to change the world.
\nYou will fail.
\nTry to love the world.
\nLo, the world is changed.
\nChanged forever.<\/p>\n

From a spiritual point of view, the only important time is now. Whether the world undergoes great changes in 2012, 2112 or never, is not something we can affect, but how we live in this present moment is.<\/p>\n

Ego and Speculation<\/h4>\n

Sometimes the mind gets a certain fascination from hearing about potential cataclysmic events. There can also be a sense of pride if we feel we are the witness to\u00c2\u00a0 secret prophecies the majority of people don’t know about. It is a subtle sense of ego and pride.<\/p>\n

But, the real knowledge is nothing esoteric and secret.<\/p>\n

The important thing in life is very simple. Our heart loves this simplicity, but, unfortunately, our mind is not always satisfied.<\/p>\n

St Therese of Lisieux writes “Our Lord needs from us neither great deeds nor profound thoughts. Neither intelligence nor talents. He cherishes simplicity.<\/em>”<\/p>\n

It is the nature of the earth to change. Nothing in this world stays the same. There is constant change, evolution. At times this change can seem confusing without any clear plan. When we try to work out what may happen in the future, we will just be confused. What we can do is to try and work on ourselves. By becoming a better person is the best way to leave the world in a better place.<\/p>\n
