To understand a book takes one week, But, to actually live the book can take several lifetimes.<\/p>\n<p>I frequently, read about the desirability of avoiding criticising others.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>To deliberately criticise<br \/>\nAnother individual<br \/>\nMay cause an indelible stain<br \/>\nOn the critic.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8211; Sri Chinmoy<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The fault is in the blamer<br \/>\nSpirit sees nothing to criticize<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8211; Rumi<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain and most fools do.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8211; Benjamin Franklin<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Criticism is an indirect form of self-boasting\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8211; Emmet Fox<\/p>\n<p>This is something in this that really resonates. And yet, it can be difficult to put into practise. As Sri Chinmoy says:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>To resist the urge<br \/>\nTo criticise others<br \/>\nIs, indeed, a most difficult task.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8211; Sri Chinmoy<\/p>\n<h3>Why it is good to avoid criticising others.<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>When we criticise others, we often have the same fault in our own nature.<\/li>\n<li>Criticising others very rarely inspires them to change.<\/li>\n<li>Gossiping about others brings out the worst in ourself. It gives us a negative frame of mind<\/li>\n<li>Criticising others, gives us a sense of pride and superiority.<\/li>\n<li>We really value people who aren&#8217;t negative, but willing to look over our mistakes and see the good.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Theory is Fine, but, Is it Practical?<\/h3>\n<p>Theoretically, it is great, but, what about living the ideal?<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I am going to try very hard to avoid criticising other people for a week. Not only will I not criticise people outwardly, but, I won&#8217;t allow myself to criticise people inwardly.<\/p>\n<p>I am intrigued to know:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Is it possible to remain free of criticism both outwardly and inwardly<\/li>\n<li>What happens when we don&#8217;t criticise others &#8211; Will we be happier?<\/li>\n<li>What will others think of us, if we refuse to criticise \/ gossip about others?<\/li>\n<li>Can it be done in all situations like work and home environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I will let you know how I get on after a week or two. You are welcome to try too.<\/p>\n<p>BTW: Common Sense is always a good thing.
