(1) There is one factual inaccuracy in the Independent article. Sri Chinmoy never swam the English Channel. (in fact he was never particularly keen on swimming). However, many of his students have swum the English channel, and Sri Chinmoy would encourage people to try this great challenge of self transcendence. Karteek Clarke of Edinburgh, Sri Chinmoy Centre has recently completed 7 successful crossings.
