Shane,

Well I could talk about more stories with my son, but that would take forever! Especially the ones that involve momentary bursts of profanity. ;)

He got my deviousness, my wife's persistence, and the curiosity that we both share. The result is a kid who is tons of "trouble" and more full of life than anybody I've ever met.

I will be curious (read: possibly frightened) to see what his first clearly audible word will be...

Thanks guys for the comments!

David, Andrea and Chris...I love hearing people talking about children, and children stories in general. Keep them coming!

Snehashila - I think it is because you are also a child at heart that you could appreciate this :)

Hey Shane......

Really enjoyed this. Glad I happened onto it today. You are so talented. Always enjoy your posts. Your teachers must have loved you and we do too. Especially when you let us see that shining heart of yours!

Every day I feel so grateful to be a part of my 15 month old son's life... to watch as he joyously pushes the laundry basket back and forth repeatedly, or points at everything and says "DAH!" waiting anxiously for me to tell him the name of what he's pointing at.

I have no doubts that my son is my greatest spiritual teacher of all time.... he is my "Guru."

This morning, I caught my three-year-old singing to herself and performing a little dance in front of a big mirror. She was completely in the moment, having a great time. No embarassment, no need to sing or dance "well" or "do a good job." Just joy. It was precious.

Blessings,
Andrea

Reminds me of an interesting experience I had while on a crowded bus today. There was a girl sitting at the front - only about 6-7 years old - singing 99 bottles of beer on the wall with quite a lot of enthusiasm and joy. Strange how the simplest thing can create such joy, and is really something older people can learn from when it comes to believing in simplicity.
